It is not a transmissible disease. The disease has some genetic risk factor. Therefore, having a family member with AS could increase your risk of the disease, but having family history of disease is not enough to cause the disease. There are multiple other environmental factors that play important role in causing the disease. Therefore, the routine screening for AS is not recommended among family members who are asymptomatic.
