Arthroplasty – Full Recovery

Patients will continue to recover following their six week visit all the way up until three to four months and even up to a year following their joint replacement surgery. Typically our visits are scheduled at six weeks and then at three to four months, if they’re having any acute issues or concerns, and then a year follow up after that. Although the recovery is not complete at three to four months, many patients can recover on their own all the way up until their one-year anniversary without additional visits into the office. These episodes of discomfort and swelling after knee replacement can continue even up to one year following your joint replacement surgery. And this can be normal. We even have some studies that demonstrate that final improvement in their function after knee replacement can take up to three years following the knee replacement surgery. Although this scenario certainly isn’t common, it’s important to know this can happen and your knee will continue to improve in time.
