Arthroplasty: Total Knee Replacement Recovery

Transcript

For knee replacement surgery, typically a spinal anesthetic is also utilized, making you numb from the waist down. In addition, there is an additional femoral block called the adductor canal block, which is utilized to improve the pain relief following surgery. Typically following knee replacement surgery, many patients also will go home the same day. However, due to the rebound pain associated with the block in the front of the thigh called an adductor canal block, which allows for much improved pain relief in the first 24 hours, many patients will stay one additional night as the pain worsens during that time as the block wears off. This procedure, however, is also being much more commonly performed in the outpatient surgical setting as well.
