Over time, if asthma is left untreated, it can cause a decline in the way your lung functions. It can also lead to an overuse of oral or injection steroids to help control asthma flares. These medications are important to help relieve bad asthma flares that can have serious side effects if you use too much over time. Uncontrolled asthma also increases your risk for having severe flares with exposure to common respiratory infections, as well as to the SARS COV COVID 19 virus. Well controlled asthmatics do not appear to have more respiratory complications compared to others with COVID-19.
