Hospitalizations are needed when the individual suffering from borderline personality disorder is exhibiting thoughts of wanting to hurt themselves or to others because of the sense of abandonment or the sense of not feeling whole. Sometimes people with borderline personality disorder may present with a psychotic episode. The individual with borderline personality disorder are also very susceptible to substance use disorders. So once that happens and once there’s a possibility that an overdose may have occurred, hence, yes, that person will need to be treated immediately.
