Breast Augmentation – Silicone vs. Saline Implants

share

Transcript

Increasingly, silicone implants are used for breast augmentation. While saline and silicone implants can both deliver beautiful results, many patients and surgeons now prefer using silicone implants as they feel the breasts are softer and more natural feeling afterwards. The silicone used today is not liquid, but cross-linked cohesive gel, often referred to as gummy bear implants, similar in consistency to a gummy bear. Silicone implants are more preferred these days, but it’s important to know that, one, they’re more expensive than saline implants. Two, they require a minimum patient age of 22 years by the FDA. And three, can require a slightly longer incision, though still fairly short. Saline implants can be a nice option for many patients, though they can feel heavier in the body and be more prone to wrinkling. You and your surgeon will decide together which option is best for you.
