Transcript

So with lumpectomy or partial removal of the breast, what options are available or where does the plastic surgeon fit into this? What we commonly do is we’ll see the patient in a preoperative area with coordinating with your surgical oncologist, and we will mark you as we would be doing a breast reduction or a mastopexy, which is a breast lift. The surgical oncologist will then access your breasts through one of those incisions, which will allow him or her to remove the cancer, access any of the lymph nodes that need to be sampled, and then the plastic surgeon will enter the OR during the same general anesthetic period and perform either a breast reduction or breast lift, providing you with the best cosmetic results possible and removing the cancer at the same time.
