Transcript

So when I see patients in clinic, one of the big questions is, what type of reconstruction should I do? Well, there’s pros and cons to each type. First off, with autologous reconstruction, where we’re using your tissue to reconstruct the breast, you have to have enough of that to do that. But if we go into the pros and cons of it, autologous, the pros would be that it’s a more durable, long lasting reconstruction. This is using your tissue to reconstruct the breast. Once it’s healed, it acts accordingly to your tissue. Whereas with implant-based reconstruction, the longevity of the reconstruction is not quite as long. During your lifetime, you’ll usually have to have a revisionary procedure to this reconstruction at some point.
