So DCIS still needs to be treated. And the primary treatment for DCIS is still surgery, just like regular breast cancers. DCIS can be treated with lumpectomy and generally also given radiation, or you can do a mastectomy with DCIS. Most DCIS is hormone positive, which means that that cancer is growing with the help of estrogen and progesterone. And so part of the treatment is generally what’s called endocrine therapy, which basically is an anti hormone therapy. So the reason we give endocrine treatment is to reduce your chance of developing another DCIS or invasive hormone positive breast cancer.
