Cancer – Tumor Genomics

Transcript

Across several different cancer types and tumor types, tumor genomics play an important role today in the treatment of cancer. With examples like the BRAF mutation and EGFR testing to help select therapies. They’ve become a routine part of clinical practice for oncologists. There’s more to do, of course, and there is a movement afoot to have some tumor types characterized by the array of different mutations and treatment selected on that basis, rather than on the basis of the tissue of origin. While some on both sides of that divide in oncology think that there is one right approach, it’s clear that tumor genomics will continue to play an important role across several tumor types, not only solid tumors, but blood-borne tumors as well in determining what the most effective and less toxic treatment will be for patients.
