Cervical Spinal Cord Injury – Fatal Injury

A severe injury high in the cervical spinal cord can often be fatal. Particularly if the injury is high enough to interfere with the patient’s ability to breathe. It is critical for them to be treated at a trauma center as quickly as possible. Oftentimes, the patient requires a ventilator for a period of time, for days up to a couple of weeks before they recover the ability to breathe. If they’re not brought to medical attention early enough, they will simply pass away from inability to breathe appropriately.
