Occasionally, I’ll see patients come in, who have been diagnosed with what they thought were hemorrhoids, but actually had an anal or rectal malignancy, even so much that maybe a physician or a provider had been treating them for hemorrhoids previously. I think it’s important that if you have any perianal, perirectal or basically anorectal discomfort or bleeding, you really should be evaluated and have a good anorectal exam, either performed by a surgeon or a colorectal surgeon, or even a provider who feels comfortable with that sort of exam.
