Especially patients with ulcerative colitis, they really need to be surveilled for malignancy or cancer or what we call dysplasia. The longer you have inflammation, the higher risk you are at especially developing dysplasia, which then could turn into a cancer or malignancy. These are definitely situations you need to discuss with your gastroenterologist as they have different methods, including colonoscopy for surveilling and evaluating for these lesions.
