share

Transcript

Obviously, COVID has done a lot of terrible things around the globe. One of the positives that we have been able to discover through COVID is the importance of the innate immune system. That really is our barrier that prevents you from developing potentially a very severe systemic illness. That’s what’s important. If you have a very strong barrier of defense, you can help prevent a very strong systemic infection. If you have a very low or poorly functioning innate immune system, or your initial barrier, you have the risk to develop a much more severe illness. That’s actually what this study has shown, showing an association with duration and severity of symptom of illness with COVID, based on people’s level of expression of T2R bitter taste receptors.
