Dealing with weight loss in cancer treatment

Weight loss can happen due to cancer or side effects of the cancer treatment. To stop or minimize weight loss, eating on a schedule instead of waiting until you’re hungry can help. Eating smaller meals throughout the day can be easier to maintain. Foods that are high in protein and calories are a great way to stabilize your weight. Adding peanut butter, olive oil, nuts, seeds, avocado, honey, or jam to your foods is an easy way to add calories while adding additional flavor to your meals. If you’re not in the mood for solid food, drinking smoothies, milkshakes, juices or soup can provide the protein, vitamins and calories that your body needs. If at any time you’re not able to eat for an extended amount of time, talk to your doctor or dietician to see if a feeding tube can help.
