Hi, I’m Douglas Walled, a diagnostic radiologist and nuclear medicine physician who works in upstate New York. I went to Yale Medical School in new Haven, Connecticut, and I stayed there for my training in diagnostic radiology residency. And I also did subspecialty fellowships in nuclear medicine and advanced cardiac imaging. In cardiac imaging, we do this really cool test where we basically are able to take videos of your heart beating inside of your chest without any radiation. In nuclear medicine, I tend to focus more on the PET / CT scans, which we use mostly in cancer patients in concert with our colleagues in oncology. These PET scans really help them to know where the cancer is, if it’s growing, if it’s receding, or if it’s come back in a patient who’s in remission. I got into radiology because I’m a pretty scientific and engineering minded person. I was always attracted even since early in med school to those giant million dollar machines in the radiology department. CAT scanner. You send a patient through and in seconds you have these beautiful images of the inside of their body without any sort of intervention or invasion whatsoever. Never break the skin. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, hiking, rock climbing and scuba diving, mostly. Although it’s been a while since I’ve done that, I have two small children now. So usually now in my free time, I’m reading books and playing with blocks, but that’s even better. I hope you find my videos to be helpful, informative on your patient journey. And I wish you the best of luck with whatever your healthcare needs may be.
