Epidural Anesthesia – Types

December 23, 2021

Transcript

There are different types of epidural anesthesia: Cervical, under your cervical spine, thoracic, your chest, and lumbar, around your belly. Each one has indications and contraindications. As I mentioned before, local anesthetics, such as Bupivacaine and other local anesthetics are the main medications that we inject into the epidural space. They’re often delivered in combination with other medications such as opioids, or narcotics, such as fentanyl or morphine, in order to improve pain control. These medications may be used in combination with other medications, such as dexamethasone, again, to prolong the duration of the block.
