Gastroparesis – Medication

Transcript

A few medications which can improve the motility of the stomach are available as treatments for gastroparesis. Unfortunately they all tend to have side effects and some cannot be used for long periods of time, again, limited by their side effect profile. Some large motility centers and universities have tried newer medications with some early success, but these are usually off label uses. I’m sure we’ll hear more to come as the results of these newer studies are available, as this has been an active area of research in gastroenterology. Unfortunately limited options do exist at the time for the treatment of gastroparesis. So we’ve focused on dietary changes as typically the mainstay of treatment.
