Glioblastoma – Outcome

Patient outcomes are directly correlated with the proportion of tumor that can be removed surgically. However, outcomes are even more importantly correlated with functional status. Meaning that complete tumor resection really provides no benefit if it means sacrificing neurologic function in order to obtain it. In order to safely maximize tumor resection, sometimes advanced functional imaging, image or fluorescence guided navigation, or intra-operative functional mapping may be required. I can’t emphasize enough the benefits of taking the time to explore your options as a patient and seeking expert opinions at major academic brain tumor centers.
