Gout is due to increased uric acid level in your body. Uric acid is a normal byproduct of our cellular metabolism. We also consume uric acid in different food that are high in purine. In normal individuals, their kidney excrete most of the uric acid in our body. Those who have gout have reduced excretion of the uric acid from the kidneys. This predispose to gout. In rare instances, people could have increased production of uric acid in the body. This typically happens in people who are getting treatment for different type of cancers.
