Can a heart murmur lead to other issues or conditions? The body is all tied together. So if you have a cardiac condition or a heart murmur and it’s left untreated, well, first it will affect the heart. The heart will start to weaken, it’ll start to dilate and it won’t function properly. When that happens, then the other organs are also affected. You may develop kidney failure, you may develop liver failure. You may have issues with cognition. You may have issues with metabolism and digestion. So it’s important to know that it’s not in isolation. If you have a dangerous murmur and it’s not treated properly, it can and will affect other organ systems and the person as a whole.
