Heart Murmurs – Echocardiogram

share

Transcript

Let’s talk about the echocardiogram and how that’s used to study and detect murmurs. When a murmur is detected on exam by a doctor, he will order an echocardiogram. An echocardiogram is just an ultrasound. It is used to look at the valves and chambers and function of your heart. When we do an ultrasound, usually it takes 30 minutes to complete the entire test. And it’s painless. We focus on all the causes of murmurs by looking at the valves, the heart function, the size, the shape, the thickness, the feeling, the pressures, we study all of these things to detect why you might have a murmur.
