IBS – Diagnosis

October 31, 2021

Often when people think they have IBS, they do want to get a real concrete diagnosis from their doctor. But diagnosing IBS is a little bit of what we call a diagnosis of exclusion. So we have to figure out what it isn’t before we can say, “Absolutely, this is IBS.” In order to do that, your doctor’s going to take a full medical history, get a complete description of your symptoms. And they may ask seemingly unrelated questions such as, “Do you have other symptoms like joint pain, rash, ulcers, things like that?” This is all to rule out other diseases so that we can be sure that we’re looking at IBS.
