There are multiple factors that increase your risk of developing urinary incontinence. As we age, muscles in our bladder and urethra weaken, causing involuntary urinary loss. Being overweight puts more pressure on the bladder, also resulting in urine leakage. This is typically with stress incontinence, such as that with coughing and sneezing. Some diseases such as diabetes and an enlarged prostate can also contribute to problems with bladder function. For men, prostate surgery can result in urinary incontinence.
