Surgery may be an option for incontinence if other treatment methods do not work. A surgical solution will be based on the type of incontinence you’re experiencing. For stress incontinence, your doctor may perform a urethral bulking agent, which is similar to a filler for the face, or for the urethra, something like a urethral sling can support the urethra. For men, an artificial urinary sphincter may be inserted to control the urine flow from the bladder to the urethra in more severe cases. For overactive bladder or urge incontinence, there are nerve stimulators that can be used similar to acupuncture, or even implanted into the body.
