Lung Cancer – Early Palliative Care

Transcript

Research conducted at several cancer centers throughout the US showed that early palliative care interventions improve lung cancer outcomes. What does that mean? It means that the sooner oncologist recommends palliative care, the more time you have to benefit from specialty level symptom management throughout the course of your treatment. This specialty level of care focuses not only on symptom management, but on alleviating suffering caused by nonphysical pain and empowers you to co-create your cancer journey every step of the way. This is particularly important as lung cancer remains the number one cause of death among all cancers. More than half of people diagnosed with lung cancer die within one year of being diagnosed. Palliative care is essential in supporting you and your loved ones on the difficult path ahead. Ask your oncologist, social worker or case manager about palliative care.
