A malignant plural effusion is the buildup of fluid and cancer cells that collects between the two linings of the lung. The one that covers the lung and the one that covers the thoracic cage. This can cause you to feel short of breath or have chest discomfort or pain when taking a deep breath. Other symptoms of a plural effusion are cough, fever or fatigue.
