Diagnosis of pulmonary embolism can be done with blood tests, chest x-ray ultrasound of your legs, or a CT pulmonary angiography. Ventilation perfusion scan is an older test that is no longer the preferred diagnostic test for pulmonary.

Glossary:

Pulmonary angiography – a type of x-ray that uses dye to create an image of the lungs and their blood vessels

Ultrasound – method to create pictures of the inside of the body using soundwaves

Ventilation proficient scan – a type of imaging scan using nuclear medicine
