Let's talk about one of the treatment options for mitral valve regurgitation, the mitral clip. This is a newer treatment modality for this condition that is non-invasive and gives excellent results in selected individuals who qualify. What this procedure involves is using a transcatheter technique through the femoral vein. The catheter goes up to the heart and into the mitral valve and it locates the area that the leak is occurring. And a clip is placed with the aims of reducing the amount of mitral regurgitation. This might not be considered a cure, but it is an effective treatment option at reducing symptoms and improving quality of life and reducing the amount of mitral regurgitation.
