One of the biggest concerns of narcissistic personality disorder is that these individuals do have a higher rate of substance use disorders as compared to the society at large. Hence, people with narcissistic personality disorder may need rehab, may need drug treatment, to help them deal with their underlying substance use disorder, which many times manifested itself due to untreated narcissistic personality disorder. In addition to that, another symptom or concern that people with narcissistic personality disorder may have is actually having suicidal thoughts, suicidal ideation, and such as even homicidal thoughts as well. So once these people with narcissistic personality disorder are exhibiting these type of desires to hurt themselves, that is also a need to actually get treatment. And some of that treatment may include being admitted to an inpatient psych unit, where we can actually start medications that can help the individual deal more effectively with their disorder.
