The good news is that there are several ways that women can reduce their chances of developing ovarian cancer. High-risk women can undergo prophylactic surgeries with the removal of tubes and ovaries before the cancer develops. Hysterectomy along with, or without removal of the tubes can also reduce the risk. Birth control pills can significantly reduce the risk of ovarian cancer with about 50% reduction after five years of use. Having children or breastfeeding can decrease the risk as well. Maintaining a healthy weight can also go a long way.
