As I sit and decompress after another busy and challenging shift in the emergency department, I wanted to share with you some of what we learned so far about COVID-19. As the number of cases continues to increase globally, it’s given scientists, clinicians, and epidemiologists an opportunity to learn more about what makes this virus tick. About why it makes us sick, and about why the symptoms can be so variable ranging from barely symptomatic to patients who require hospital admission and critical care support. In this four video series, we’re going to drill down on the four different patient groups of COVID-19 patients that have been identified based on the severity of symptoms, the treatment and the approaches and outcomes, all in the hope that this information will help shape your preventative as well as your treatment decision-making in order to keep you informed, healthy, and safe, as well as help you play a role in flattening the curve and trying to prevent the transmission to other people.
