Pediatric Sleep Apnea – Diagnosis

share

Transcript

If you suspect your child has sleep apnea, contact the pediatrician, who will perform a detailed history and physical exam. The pediatrician may order a sleep study and frequently will refer you to a sleep apnea doctor. An overnight sleep study is the test that is used to diagnose sleep apnea. This test monitors the child’s brainwaves as well as breathing and oxygen during sleep. The test is not invasive and is not painful, and typically it occurs in the sleep lab. The sleep study is then interpreted by a doctor that specializes in children’s sleep.
