Pediatric Sleep Apnea – Symptoms

share

Transcript

Some common symptoms of sleep apnea in kids include snoring, mouth breathing, pauses, coughing, choking, or difficulty breathing. They can also have excessive sweating or restless sleep, and some can present with sleep terrors as well as bedwetting. Common daytime symptoms of sleep apnea in kids include fatigue or daytime tiredness. They can be sleepy or more irritable. Some of them can have hyperactivity as well as learning problems. Any child who snores should see their provider. Your child may have mild snoring and can outgrow this. But if the snoring becomes more persistent, or if you notice other sleep apnea symptoms, the pediatrician can refer your child to a pediatric sleep doctor. Pediatric sleep apnea is not usually a medical emergency. A child, however, that has frequent gasping or long pauses may require immediate medical attention. Additionally, any child with sudden difficulty breathing should be evaluated promptly.
