Eastern poison ivy occurs in the Eastern half of the US, typically climbs trees with aerial rootlets, includes some subspecies in Mexico, Japan and China. Northern or Western poison ivy includes non climbing shrubs, is located in the Western half of the US except for California, also includes northern border states. South African poison ivy is present in South Africa.
