Postnatal Depression – Overview

share

Transcript

Having a baby is a life changing and momentous experience. Up to 75% of women may experience a few days of emotional changes after having a baby. And this will often resolve shortly with time and reassurance. Postnatal depression, however, refers to a distinct depressive episode, which can occur in 10 to 15% of women within six months of giving birth. And the onset usually peaks three to four weeks after giving birth. These episodes usually result over the course of a month, although rarely, can persist for over a year.
