There are multiple different types of cells that make up the testicle. Any one of them can develop into testicular cancer and therefore there’s many different types of testicular cancer. Most cancers of the testicle form from a type of cell called a germ cell and the cancers form into two broad categories. These two categories lead to two completely different pathways for treatment. The first and the most common is called seminoma. That’s just the name of this cell type. Everything else goes into another category, which is basically called not seminoma. So we have seminoma and non seminoma, which captures everything else. In the non seminoma category, there are four different cancer types: embryonal cell, choriocarcinoma, yolk sac tumor, and teratoma.
