The most common signs and symptoms of tuberculosis include cough, fever, chills, night sweats, or weight loss, especially when these symptoms persist for two weeks or more. Symptoms and signs of TB vary greatly between patients. For example, young children and some persons with conditions that suppress the immune system tend to have milder symptoms, even though they, ironically, are at greater risk of adverse outcomes. Up to half of all TB patients may have no TB symptoms at all, at least in the initial stages, and it may be necessary in their case to find tuberculosis using a chest radiograph.
