Warts are not bothersome, but where they are located places a role in how they affect your life. For example, if a plantar wart develops on a pressure point on the bottom of your foot, that can be very painful. Flat warts on your hands near your fingernails can push on your nails, which can be painful or uncomfortable, or make certain hobbies more difficult. Warts tend to clear up on their own after two to three years. However, if you’re immunosuppressed or if they’re located in an area causing pain or discomfort, medical attention may be needed. Warts are typically easy to identify, but other conditions that can look like warts could be molluscum, commonly known as water warts, or inflamed hair follicles.
