Types of Chemotherapy

Transcript

If you’ve been offered chemotherapy, these are some of the more common agents that we use. 5-fluorouracil, or 5fu. This is an IV chemotherapy. It has a counterpart or an alternative known as Capecitabine or Xeloda. This is an oral or a pill chemotherapy.

These are used in combination with a drug called oxaliplatin, which is another IV chemotherapy. These are the general classes of drugs or types of drugs that we use.

More specific treatment, especially in the setting of stage four, might include chemotherapy or alternatives like targeted therapy or immunotherapy. These might be used alone or in conjunction with some of the chemotherapies I mentioned earlier. How long you will need chemotherapy and the chemotherapy that you receive will be determined by your oncologist during one of your visits.
