Stomach Lining

June 21, 2019

One other thing you should keep in mind is that you will say, well, Gee, if the stomach is producing a fair amount of acid, what’s keeping the stomach from literally digesting its own lining or burning a hole in the stomach or creating an ulcer. Keep in mind that the stomach lining also produces mucin or mucinous secretion. It’s kind of like a lubricant to help protect against the corrosive effect of the gastric acid that secreted and so that the stomach has to walk a fine line, so to speak, between being able to digest and dissolve food particles as opposed to digesting and dissolving its own surface and creating ulcers.
