A mild or low grade temperature in the first three to five days following your surgery can be a normal finding following anesthesia related to your joint replacement surgery. We term this atelectasis. This is because of not taking really big, deep breaths. And so it’s important after your surgery to take big, deep breaths following your surgery for the first three to five days in order to prevent this complication from occurring. This typically manifests itself as very low grade temperatures, however. If your temperature exceeds 101 degrees, you’ll be asked to contact your doctor.
