Transcript

Anticoagulation is a cornerstone for treatment for atrial fibrillation, but there are some patients who are at very high risk for bleeding and have contraindications to anticoagulations. In these patients, I recommend talking to your doctor about a procedure called a left atrial appendage closure procedure, which closes the left atrial appendage, which is where most of the blood clots from atrial fibrillation form that predisposes to stroke. Now, this procedure is not for everybody, but it’s important for you to talk to your physician and determine whether or not you are a candidate for this procedure.
