Some of the risk factors for atrial fibrillation include excessive alcohol intake, hypertension, diabetes, any form of thyroid disease, if you have chronic lung disease or if you’ve ever had any kind of surgeries on your heart. More and more research is showing that AFib can be genetic – that AFib can run in families – and there is a genetic predisposition to atrial fibrillation.
