So the causes of brain tumors is really very much unknown. There has been much in the lay literature regarding cell phones being associated with the development of brain cancer. This is really not panned out to be a really significant causative factor. This was actually thought to be relevant in the presentation of various meningiomas though in Europe, there are many different types of epidemiologic studies looking at the cell phones, and there really isn’t any strong, direct correlative relationship between that. Now, in terms of the most common type of primary brain tumor, as in gliomas, there’s really no specific cause. There are some relationships between certain chemicals, such as hydrocarbons and particularly in the pediatric population. High tension electrical fields are to some degree associated with that though. And certainly in adults, causative agents are really unknown.
