Breast Cancer – Autologous Reconstruction – After Surgery

So patients commonly ask, “What is my breast going to look like and feel like after surgery?” [In] autologous reconstruction, the tissue will feel very natural because it is your natural tissue. If we cannot achieve the volume that you would like at the initial operation, when we go back for our secondary operation, there’s many options on increasing the volume. One of which is fat grafting, where we harvest adipose tissue from other areas of the body and graft it into the flaps. Another commonly used option is placing a small implant underneath the flaps like you would in a breast augmentation procedure to add volume and projection to the breast. This is very common and a very nice way to reconstruct the breast because it provides a breast augmentation look at the end of your reconstructive process.
