Carpal tunnel surgery is an outpatient procedure. It can be done at a hospital, in an office operating room, or in an outpatient surgery center. There are several different methods of performing carpal tunnel release surgery. However, they all have in common, a small incision and a release of the band of tissue that forms the roof of the carpal tunnel. Once that band is opened, pressure inside the tunnel is released and the nerve can go on to recover and function more normally.
