Sometimes with surgery, especially after radiation, you may develop a leak or a small defect at your anastomotic connection. This could lead either to a sinus or a fistulas tract. And this is basically a small sinus track that comes off of the anastomosis. Sometimes we’re able to treat these with observation. Sometimes these do require further surgery. Oftentimes, again, you’ve had a diverting osteomy performed at the time, which will allow us to correctly surgically repair this area.
