Coronary artery disease is buildup of plaque in the walls of the arteries of the heart. Over time, the plaque builds up such that it obstructs the blood flow and then leads to symptoms. And if the symptoms are ignored, the patient could develop what we call a heart attack or myocardial infarction, which is damage to the muscle of the heart, which is often irreversible. Microvascular disease is disease in the smaller vessels of the heart that are not easily seen by angiography, or the test that we do on a day to day basis.
