DVT is common in patients that are 60 years of age or older. DVT is common in people that are sedentary for prolonged periods or bedridden. DVT is common in smokers and overweight patients, and those that take birth control. DVT can also occur in patients that have certain inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. Nearly 300,000 cases per year of DVT is diagnosed, mainly in the lower extremities.
